Who was Morris Kight?

The short answer is:

· Co-founder of Gay Pride Parade, 1970

• Co-founder Dow Action Committee, 1965

· Co-founder Gay Liberation Front/Los Angeles, 1969

· Principal co-founder of Gay Community Services Center, 1971 (now known as Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Center)

· Co-author of Gay and Lesbian Human Rights Platform, 1972

· Principal co-founder Van Ness Recovery House, 1973

· Principal co-founder Stonewall Democratic Club, 1975

· Co-founder of Gay and Lesbian Caucus/California Democratic Party, 1976

· Commissioner of Human Relations for the County of Los Angeles, 1980-2002 Vice President 1981-88; President 1988-89

· Grand Marshal of numerous parades and recipient of many awards and recognitions including the Eason Monroe Courageous Advocate Award from the Southern California American Civil Liberties Union

Who is writing this stuff?

A documentary film producer, archivist, activist, recovered television writer, political researcher, and now biographer, MARY ANN CHERRY befriended Morris Kight during the last decade of his life. A long-time Los Angeles resident, she'd heard of the legendary activist for years. Shortly before he died, Kight gave his blessing to her to tell his story. With that, she began researching his life, starting in Albuquerque and then she went to Texas. She quickly realized that Kight’s story really is as interesting as he’d been telling people. And now she tells you.
